Menetou-Salon White 2014

The climate of this vintage severely tested the winemakers’ nerves. The winter was one of the smoothest in recent years, leaving the thermometer above zero. The softness of March favored an early bud break, emphasized throughout April. Rain and freshness mostly overlooked from late April until late August, making treatments against fungal and diseases a difficult, not to say perilous exercise, and significantly delaying maturity. On August 31st, the moisture-cool cycle dramatically inverted in favor of a nice cold sun, helping sanitation of the clusters and maturity of the grapes. In the end, this climate offered a great vintage, structured with beautiful freshness, which gives energy to the wine and significant aging potential.

The white Menetou-Salon has a nice yellow color with golden highlights. The nose is expressive, revealing raisin notes, nougat, perfected by aromas of dried flowers (linden). It rests on a mineral structure. The attack is soft, round and balanced by a nice acidity. The finish offers an aromatic reoccurrence of orange zest.

This wine will reveal strength and character as an aperitif. It will be the perfect accompaniment for seafood (oysters in particular), hot starters, fish and of course, sushi. This white Menetou-Salon will be a great match with goat cheese and will prove surprizing with sorbets.
